It's the only song in the soundtrack not composed by a Scotsperson, with it being composed by Alex Mandel & Mark Andrews, as opposed to Patrick Doyle who produced the rest of the soundtrack. It sounds like what people think Scottish folk sounds like. It's hard to explain properly but it just doesn't feel right at all. The 'na-na-na's in the tail end of the song particularly stick out as odd. It's a very Disney-fied modern Scottish Folk song. I can't even defend 'Touch the Sky' brilliantly within the genre. I personally really dislike the Tarzan soundtrack whilst I know others laud it, I simply don't like Phil Collins' style. I, similarly, dislike other styles of music. Dep simply dislikes the style of music and thus doesn't appreciate the song in the same way I can.
DISNEY BRAVE TOUCH THE SKY HOW TO
It was a significant part of why I was bitter at the 'Song of Mor'du' being cut when it was, and also why I'm immensely disappointed that 'Noble Maiden Fair' doesn't appear in the rankdown at all.Īnd at this point, I don't know how to argue for it.

The setting of the song was when Merida finally decided to be independent and explore nature by herself. But a cut is a cut, and we signed up for this haha! Touch The Sky is the first song of Disney/Pixar's 2013 Brave. And some rankers will cut according to their preferences (I mean, it's hard not to, right?) but it makes me a little sad when preference becomes the primary reason for a cut. Lyrics Begin: When the cold wind is a-calling and the sky is clear and bright, misty mountains sing and beckon, lead me out into the light. Some people don't like this kind of music. So when we see her mother throw it in the fireplace later in the movie, we understand just how TERRIBLE it is because we see her proficiency and how she cares for it/decorates it.Īnyways, I get it. Not to mention that it shows her relationship with archery and how much it means to her. This song/scene contrasts the oppressive nature of her mother quite beautifully and starts to set up their clashing personalities.

This song, I think, does exactly what its purpose is, which is to fill the viewer with excitement and wonder, to really help the audience understand exactly why Merida needs to get out of the castle and away from her duties as future queen. As a huge fan of all things Celtic, the music especially really hits home for me. Touch the sky.Aw, this makes me really sad.
